New edition with a preface by Thomas Brail, arborist-climber, founder and co-president of the GNSA.
Julia Hill, known as "Butterfly" (born February 18, 1974), is an American environmental activist, world-renowned for having lived for 738 days in the canopy of an ancient redwood tree, named Luna, in California, to prevent its felling by the Pacific Lumber company. This act of resistance made her an iconic figure in the fight for forest protection.
In 1997, Julia “Butterfly” Hill climbed more than 55 meters up into a giant redwood in northern California for what she intended to be a few weeks of occupation. Her goal was to prevent the Pacific Lumber company from clear-cutting the surrounding forest.
Little did she know that she would end up living there for more than two years…
This autobiographical book tells her story.
