Plea for a wild and free nature

During the 20th century, the defeat of the wild seemed total. We gradually created a vacuum around us. The litany of disappearances continues daily in the indifference of decision-makers, and scientists predict a biological annihilation that would shake the very foundations of human civilization. And yet, this book is an optimistic work. All is not lost, far from it. Because, despite everything we have made it suffer, nature resists. Better still, it is coming back! Our country is best placed to lead the race for the most beautiful European nature. Promoting the return of wild nature is an excellent factor for development. Our natural wealth is renewable and non-relocatable. This is the economic challenge of tomorrow.

Gilbert Cochet is attached to the National Museum of Natural History, expert at the Council of Europe, president of the Scientific Council of the Gorges de l'Ardèche nature reserve.
